Shaldon is a picture postcard village on the banks of the River Teign in South Devon. On the other side of the river lies Teignmouth, a traditional seaside town complete with pier, ice cream and sandy beaches.
Which is not to say that Shaldon does not have many charms. There is a beach, zoo and lovely village centre dotted with shops and pubs which offer a more relaxed pace of life for the visitor.
The village is at the mouth of the River Teign and there is plenty of river activity and walks along the edge of the river to enjoy. There is a road bridge across to Teignmouth or a foot passenger ferry crossing the estuary and a beach in Shaldon though swimming is not advised because of the proximity of the river mouth.
